Welcome to the first CIC event for 2016- the second annual CIC Discover India quiz and trivia game. Here is a brief FAQ for participants and guests and the rules for the game.
Date of Event: Feb 21st, Sunday

Venue: Vineland Branch Library, 1450 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose, CA - 95118
Game Rules
Now for all the all important game rules. The game will have the following rounds. The order in which these rounds will happen will be determined by how fast the program moves.
I will explain rules in greater detail during the event. Some rounds are purposefully cryptic. Once you know the rules, it will be much more simpler.
- Jeopardy I
- Jeopardy II
- Dumb Charades
- 1:1
- 2DS
- Bandhan
- Audio
- Visual
Jeopardy
Between the two Jeopardy rounds, there are a total of 8 topics each with 5 questions. Jeopardy Round I will have 4 topics and a total of 20 questions. Jeopardy II will have 4 topics with 20 total questions.
The points per question will range from 5-20 based on the complexity of the question, according to the quiz master. Teams will get to pick their topic and the specific question based on complexity. If they answer correctly, they get the designated number of points. If they answer incorrectly, they lose the same number of points. Each team gets to pick one question in each Jeopardy Round to double their points or lose the same.
Jeopardy topics will be shared with teams on the day before the event.
Dumb Charades
Classic dumb charades in how the clue is acted out. There is a slight twist to the question- find out on February 21st.
20 points if you get everything right. No negative marks. There will be opportunity for partial points. Question does not pass. Team will get to pick question.
1:1
Classic 20 Questions in how the clue is deciphered. There is a slight twist here too- find out on February 21st.
20 points if you get everything right. No negative scoring. There will be opportunity for partial points. Question does not pass. Team will get to pick question.
Bandhan
The ties that bind. 20 points for the right answer. No negative scoring. Question will pass. 10 points if any other team gets it right. Team will get to pick question.
2DS
Connect the dots. Up to 30 points if you get everything right. No negative scoring. There will be opportunity for partial points. Question will pass. Team will get to pick question.
Akash Vani - Audio Round
Music and masti. 20 points for the right answer. No negative scoring. Question will pass. 10 points if any other team gets it right. Team will get to pick question.
Dekh Bhai Dekh - Visual Round
20 points for the right answer. No negative scoring. Question will pass. 10 points if any other team gets it right. Team will get to pick question.
Quiz Master decision is final and binding. Some teams might have questions they perceive is too difficult for them while others might get questions perceived as easy. I have done my best to keep them at the same level. In Jeopardy, I have tried to scale the difficulty with the points for the specific question. But it is entirely possible, you find a 20 point question easier than a 5 point one. That is hard to plan for.
FAQ for Guests
Are guests/audience allowed?
Yes, we love to have a good audience. There is NO entry fee for the audience. Anyone can stop by anytime. Your friends need your support (in more ways than one). Stop by to see members of the community pit their wits against each other. If nothing, this will be a nice Sunday afternoon to hang out with friends-old and new, have some snacks for you to purchase and enjoy an hour of trivia about India.
Can I bring my kids to watch?
We would love for you to bring your kids to watch adults compete against each other. We will have some snacks for free for kids to enjoy while they (and you) watch the event.
How can I help?
If you are not participating, you can help by cheering. We could also do with some minimal help setting things up before 2 pm and cleaning up afterwards. Helping engage kids if that is your forte is also most welcome.
FAQ for Participants
Will the quiz be difficult?
The purpose of this event is to have fun and answer as many things as possible. Some rounds will appear more difficult than others but the complexity of the question itself is the same. Most people, places and things are what you know and grew up with. I expect 75% of questions or more to be answered. For those unanswered, I expect you to fail only because you didn’t remember- not because you didn’t know.
My team mate bailed out on us in the last minute. What can I do?
If a team mate bails out on you in the last minute, you are welcome to choose a volunteer from the audience to be part of your team as long as team size is no more than 5. I hope, given the enthusiasm around all the clues of the puzzle leading up to the event, folks will be excited to participate.
Can I come late?
The game will start at 2. If you arrive late, we will not be able to wait for you since we will lose the venue at 5 pm. We will get started without you. You are welcome to join in midway as long as your team is OK with it. Each round is build around the team’s overall capability. By arriving late, you will be doing a disservice to your team. As long as the team and you understand it, I am fine with it.
What time should I come?
The event will start sharp at 2 pm. We have a packed event and it is important for us to start on time to get the most out of it.
How do I pay the entry fee?
The entry fee per team is $10 as was described in the sign up form. You can give a check for $10 in the Cambrian Indian Community or cash at the venue.
Will there be any food to eat?
There will be samosas and chai available for purchase. There will be a break during the event for participants and guests to get some snacks and mingle. There will also be lemonade and cookies for kids, free of cost.
Can I bring my kids?
Definitely. Older kids can choose to be part of the team of their parents or watch. There will be no dedicated person to look after your kids other than you. So plan accordingly.
Is there anything for the kids to do?
During the adults game break, there will be a short quiz for kids. No teams required. This quiz will be rudimentary India knowledge and the winning kid will get a prize.
Can our team dress up in matching clothes, or have something cool to show?
Heck yeah! There will be an awesome photographer to capture all that and more! So party on!
